Know Your Rights
All people in the United States have rights under the U.S. Constitution - regardless of immigration status. If you encounter an immigration or law enforcement officer, remain calm, and remember that you have the right to:
-
Remain silent when questioned or arrested;
-
Refuse to disclose your immigration or citizenship status;
-
Refuse entry to your home or to a private area of a business, unless they have a warrant signed by an judge or permission to enter;
-
Refuse to sign anything that you do not understand; instead, you can ask to speak with an attorney.

How to Get Involved
Save the ICIRR Family Support Hotline
The Illinois Coalition for Immigrant & Refugee Rights (ICIRR) hosts a Family Support Hotline. Save 855-435-7693 to your phone to rapidly report suspected ICE activity.
The hotline is offered in English, Spanish, Korean and Polish and can be used to report ICE activity, get a referral to an immigration legal provider, deportation defense, and more.

Use your Language Skills to Support Immigrant Families
Do you speak English and another language at an advanced conversational level? If so, you can volunteer with the National Immigrant Justice Center to assist them in providing free legal services to immigrants.

Stay Informed in Your Neighborhood
I encourage you to follow the Northwest Side Rapid Response Team for verified updates on ICE activity in our neighborhood. The Northwest Side Rapid Response Team is part of ICIRR's network and responds to reports of potential ICE activity throughout the area. Sign up for their newsletter here to stay updated or if you are interested in being trained to join their Rapid Response ICE Watch.
